Dazed by Kim Karr

5 Magnificent Stars
Arc received from author in exchange for an honest review

~~ This is a story which proves you can never escape the power of Love. For it’s intensity is strong enough to heal a broken heart.~~
Dazed was just the perfect tidbit I needed to soothe my craving for more of Kim Karr’s Connections Series. I was over the moon with excitement when I received the ARC for Aerie and Jagger’s love story. This novella was a pleasant surprise.

The Cupcake Thief
There is something magical in Kim Karr’s storytelling.  I become immersed within the tale and an instant connection is sparked between the characters and myself.  I feel their emotions, and when the story is over, I have a difficult time letting them go.  Dazed was no different. So, I gazed into the looking glass, fell in, and started on the crazy journey into the lives of Aerie and Jagger. And at the end, as always, I am longing for more…
The character of Aerie Daniels differs from what we were introduced to in Connected.  To me, she portrayed strong-willed, confident woman who supported her best friend Dahlia through a most difficult time.  That may be so, but we see a different side to Aerie – her vulnerability. As a child, her parents neglected her.  Her only meaningful relationship was with her Uncle Ian.  Spending time with Ian during her teen years, she met her first love (who lived near by) and experienced a great heartache. Feeling the bite of betrayal, Aerie distanced her self from her uncle and the unpleasant memories of her ex. This riddled her with guilt.
Aerie’s love life is severely lacking because of the scars she bares. She vowed never again to surrender herself to another man.  Believing it will only lead her to pain, she built walls around her heart to protect herself.  Walls which stood firm…. until Jagger.
Meet Jagger Kennedy, River’s adorable cousin.  He is tall, dark, handsome, has a great sense of humor and sexy as hell. He is a perfect fit for Aerie, if she would only stop trying to fight the allure. He too had experienced heartache in the past, but his attraction and deep feelings for Aerie are so powerful, he would stop at nothing to assure she remains in his life, in his heart and in his bed forever.

Jagger is a force to be reckoned with and his charms are nearly impossible for Aerie to resist. So, like Alice in “Through the looking Glass”, Aerie’s adventures with Jagger bring her life and heart to places she never would have imagined.  They are truly a sweet couple.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dazed, my only wish is that it was longer for I can never get enough of this series.  I’m looking forward to Mended and jumping into Xander Wilde’s life.

Twisted by Emma Chase

4 Stars
Arc provided by author in exchange for an honest review

Twisted is the continuing love story of Drew and Kate, told mainly from Kate’s POV. Emma Chase presents an insight into the couple’s relationship two years down the road and I’m happy to say that Drew and Kate’s love life is more sizzling and hotter than ever. (The kitchen scene was spectacular *swoon*) Kate is still stubborn and Drew is just…Drew. He’s still witty, sexy, charming, adorable and most of all - EXASPERATING.

Things seem to be hunky dory for our delightful couple until suddenly a HUGE misunderstanding takes place, altering their lives forever. (Misunderstanding is an understatement – the domino effect of this event is immeasurable).  Drew behaves like a total ass, but that’s par for the course.  He manages to hurt Kate in such a way that turns both their lives upside down.  UGH! I wanted to slap him so hard and scream “WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU”!

Alas, Drew  crushed Kate’s heart. Yes, he was irrational. Yes, he single-handily screwed up their relationship. And yes, his stupidity causes both to be miserable and brokenhearted.  I do not fault Kate for being angry, for Drew is completely to blame for the riff created.  Drew, you son of a bitch – you frustrated the shit out of me.

Needless to say, Kate is not the type of chick who puts up with crap. So, she takes some time to reflect and tries to put her life back together.  It is here we see a different side of Kate as she re-connects with her family, old friends and Billy.  Of course Dee Dee pops in, ball busting and providing Kate with the much-needed comic relief during this dismal time. I felt horrible for Kate. Enduring such sorrow, as her life is shattered leaving her in limbo. BUT, Kate did manage to severely piss me off with her reprehensible actions and crazy thoughts. These two characters really tried my patience, & I loved every minute of it.

Things become difficult for Drew during this time. (Good, he deserves it for being such an asshole). Just when I had my fill of his shenanigans, he surprises me.  The jovial jokester channels his serious side – and treats Kate to an emotional outburst proclaiming his undying love for her. Who would have thought Drew could pull sincerity off?   Phew, so happy these two FINALLY managed to clear the air and work through their issues.  It was a rough and tumble roll through much of their story. Now, all is good in the world of Drew and he’s back to the wisecracking snarky bastard I’ve come to love.

All in all, I enjoyed this read.  It was more serious than I would have imagined, based on the first installment, but it did not disappoint.  The hilarity level was toned down a bit, but the heat created by these two was outstanding.  For fans of Tangled, Twisted is a MUST READ.
